Augmented Reality: People knew Target was opening new stores but they weren’t always exactly sure where. So, within a few square miles of each new store location, two distinctive red shapes – a red ball and a red ring – were attached to streetlight and other utility poles. When viewed from the correct angle, the ball and ring aligned to form both the Target logo and a ‘sighting reticle’ oriented in the exact direction of the new Target location. At installations where the new store location was directly visible, augmented reality (via a mobile-friendly microsite) depicted the future store in its real environs. cw
